INTERACTIVE AND PRACTICAL LEARNING

Meet The Team

Richard Thompson, BA (Hon), DC, MBA

President & Founder

For the past 15 years, I have worn several hats in my career - chiropractor, entrepreneur, business owner and clinic director. During this time, I have enjoyed acquiring and growing three practices into integrative, multidisciplinary centres and mentoring young health professionals on building their clinical and business management skills. However, early on in my career, the absence of formal business education contributed towards me making some blind business decisions that were extremely costly on my bottom line and my personal time.

Practicality was developed to cover key learnings in major areas of business that are critical for both new graduates entering the workforce and experienced practitioners. Our business training modules are born from clinical and business ownership experience with an MBA from the Ivey School of Business. Practicality addresses real-world business challenges and solutions for the healthcare practitioner in clinical practice. With high-quality, fundamental training in business concepts and systematic clinical procedures, every healthcare practitioner can become stronger business owners, leaders, and healthcare advocates that lead successful careers and fulfilling lives.

Having ethical, proven business processes in place at my clinics helps create efficiencies in my workweek that allows me to spend time with my family, my two young boys, and the occasional round of golf with the guys.

Partner

I am passionate about working with entrepreneurs and advocating for financial literacy. In my 16 years in the financial services industry, I have worked with hundreds of entrepreneurs helping them navigate the complexities of their personal, business and wealth needs. This is why I partnered with Practicality, as I saw the opportunity first hand to help healthcare professionals bridge the gap between their technical training and the financial knowledge required to build a thriving business.

Currently I am Vice President Business Banking with BMO Financial Group in Southwestern Ontario. I am a Certified Financial Planner with Financial Planners of Canada, and received an MBA from the University of Western Ontario’s Ivey School of Business.

I am a liaison for several local Chambers of Commerce as well as charitable organizations such as the United Way, Kids Help Phone and Habitat for Humanity. Furthermore, I have chaired Employee Resource Groups advocating for health & wellness in the workplace.

In my personal life, I am a proud husband, father of three children. I enjoy staying active outdoors by discovering new trails to hike with my family and our dog, Arthur.
