What is Practicality?

Practicality is about achieving clinical success in private practice by understanding and adopting fundamental business concepts and processes into your practice. Your health sciences education has prepared you to deliver quality, evidence-informed care to your patients to ultimately help them with their health concerns.

However, that's only half of the real-world clinical practice picture. Practice success demands diverse knowledge in all aspects of business to not only make it, but to thrive as a confident, successful healthcare practitioner. Learn how you can live the work-life balance of your dreams, without the stress of wondering if there are enough patients to keep your practice afloat.

ABOUT DR. RICHARD THOMPSON

Richard Thompson, BA (Hon), DC, MBA

President & Founder

For the past 12 years, I have worn several hats in my career - chiropractor, entrepreneur, business owner and clinic director. As a proud 2006 graduate of the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College, it’s been my career passion to not only help patients receive the highest level of care available, but to also help healthcare practitioners build successful careers. I have also acquired and grown two single-discipline practices into integrative, multidisciplinary centres.

The first few years of any chiropractic practice are not without their challenges. Most of us lack essential business concepts, regardless if you become an associate, purchase a practice or start your own. I made some great business decisions over the years but also made many blind decisions that ended up being very costly, from both a financial and a time-lost perspective. Managing a team of practitioners and administrative staff over and above my treatment schedule and home-life commitments was stressful!

I have developed Practicality and this comprehensive, four-day program for chiropractic students to dive deep into the major areas of business that I feel are critical for chiropractors to be equipped with before entering the workforce. Taking my 12+ years of clinical and business ownership experience in combination with my MBA education from the Ivey School of Business, this in-depth program addresses real-world business challenges and solutions for the chiropractor in clinical practice. It is my vision that with quality, fundamental training in business concepts and systematic clinical procedures, every healthcare practitioner can become stronger business owners, leaders, and healthcare advocates that lead successful careers and fulfilling lives.

Testimonials

Finally, a comprehensive, ethical, value-packed program on the ‘business' of being a chiropractor! How you manage everything outside of the treatment room is paramount to your success as an individual, as well as the positive impact you can have for your patients and your community.

Dr. Shawn Thistle, BKin (Hons), DC

The Practicality course material truly incorporates all of the key business elements every chiropractor should know, regardless of your practice setup. I see the insight and business acumen gained from this course paying for itself multiple times over even before your first day in practice!

Dr. Warren Hefford, BSc, MSc, DC, FRCCSS(C)

This is it! The missing piece of the puzzle for new graduates about to enter practice. The Practicality curriculum affords you all the tools you need and more. Having this program available would have undoubtedly streamlined my evolution from an associate chiropractor to clinic owner.
